July 1971 in a small town in Nigeria into a well artistic family. Judith started out with commercials like coca cola, Nixoderm, Liberia Gsm among others and playing extra roles in the movies. Shortly thereafter, she landed a role in the movie "Dangerous sisters" she played along side Genevieve Nnaji, Dakore Akande and a host of other actors. AfroCandy speaks exclusively to VANUZONAIJA about herself/her career and more...
VAN: Tell us a bit about Judith AfroCandy (Education/Family/Marital status)
AFROCANDY: I
am an Actress, Artist, Indie Producer, Director, Commercial Model,
Editor, Script/Song Writer, the CEO of Invisible Twins Productions INC
and a Single mother of 2 beautiful Girls, so you can call me a 'Multiple
Threat'. As
per Education, I am a graduate with 2 Associate Degrees in Office
Administration and Computer Science. A Bachelors Degrees in Business
Management and a graduate in Medical Billing and Coding. Also getting
ready to go back to school to study Law.
AFROCANDY: Yeah
! People think it's a porn because they can't possibly differentiate a
Porno from a regular movie and I guess it's because it's done by a
regular person like me, African, Nigerian and Black, what else did you
expect them to say about it? When Hollywood Actresses like Halley Berry
and co play such roles, no one calls them porn. Even the sex scenes in
my Movies are not as bad as the one in Spactaccus but Nigerians still
watch this movies, enjoy them and never raise any eye brows. Fact is, I
don't care what they may call my movies and it won't stop me from giving
my True fans what they wanna see. I will always make good movies in my
own ways, tell you what, the game has just begun.
VAN: There's being a lot of negative rumors about you lately, how does that make you feel?
AFROCANDY: Honey;
the negative rumors don't bother me, I see them as a part of the game
so, I don't feel anything about them. People can talk, the more they
talk, the more they harden me up and no one can stop me.
VAN: You recently did a movie, titled "Destructive instinct" and a lot of
people who watched the trailer, think it's a soft porn, what would you
say about that?
VAN: A man by the name 'Bolton Elumelu Mazagwu' said in an interview he gave
daily sun, that he's your ex-husband, I'm guessing you've read all he
said about you in the interview. Tell us your own side of the story in a
brief.
AFROCANDY: Oh
well, I never read any of that but I saw it a long time ago. Why are
they still bringing up an old news? As you can see, I have moved on with
my life handling my Business, those things don't bother me and infact, I
see them as mere distractions. I got Business to focus on and if you
don't mind, please let's leave the past tense in the past and move on
with the next question. Thank you!
VAN: How do you feel about YouTube taking down your video?
AFROCANDY: I
felt bad at first why because, my Video is not the worst Video on
Youtube, I have come across porn Videos on Youtube and worst videos but
nobody is complaining about those, why mine? Or is it because so many
Nigerians flagged it? Well, I later realized that I should have Rated
it, like putting an age restriction on it. But I felt better when I
found it on DailyMotions, the only problem is, most of my fans are not
able to view it through phones, if you must watch it, you have to do
that on the Computer and make sure you turn off your Age restriction to
confirm that you are up to 18+. That actually kills me cos I would want
all my fans to enjoy my hand work.
VAN: You wrote on your Facebook wall that the actor in your movie wants you to
remove the video from the internet, are you thinking of doing that?
AFROCANDY: Yes
he asked me to remove the video from the Internet and when I agued it,
he said I should just remove him from the entire movie but hell nah, I
cannot do that right now cos it's already too late. I called a lawyer,
my Lawyer told me to go ahead with the release of my production whether
he signed a contract or not, he is an Adult, his presence and
willingness to participate in the movie when he knew that I was making
it for the public is considered as his consent. So, case closed.
VAN: You know yourself more than we know you, would you be proud to tell your daughters to follow your footstep?
AFROCANDY: I
may be their mother because I brought them into the world, I may have
the privilege to raise them up to adult age but you know I cannot tell
them what to do or follow at a certain age. Besides, they are American
who have their own minds, if they graduate from College and decide to
follow my footsteps, it's their own calling. If I can predict, they
wouldn't wanna do what I do because they have better opportunities and
better futures than mine. All I do now it to secure a better future for
them so they don't have to go through what I went through in my life
time. Mind you, I tell my Daughters everything I do, I even told them
about this project, the nature of it but I could not show them because
they are not up to 18 yet, I just had to prepare them incase they run
into it on the Internet, they won't be shocked. So don't worry about my
daughters, they are the
best children any mother could ever ask for and I thank God for the
gift.
VAN: What type of message are you trying to pass to people who watch your movie?
AFROCANDY: You
know movies are not always made to pass messages even though some
people might read through it and pass certain messages to themselves,
it's pure Entertainment and I have gotten a lot of positive reviews from
people it gave good feelings.
VAN: Some people think you're possessed by some sort of evil spirit, what would you say about that?
AFROCANDY: (Laughs)…Oh
Yeah? ha ha ha ha ha, you really cracked me up with that one. Evil
Spirit? I don't have to tell you how our people are, we are the most
holiest, churchious disciplined people in the whole world but still, we
have most problems than other countries. They always know better who is
possessed and who is not. In my opinion, I am just exhibiting my God's given
talent but if they term it possession by evil spirit, na deem sabi. The
end would justify the means, thats all I can tell them.
VAN: What's your next project? And any message for your fans?
AFROCANDY: I
would rather not expose my plot, too many copycats out there who are
always waiting for someone else's ideas, but I will update you as we go
on, so watch and see. As for my Fans, I love them with all my heart and I
promise to remain the one and only AfroCandy for them, give it to them
the way they love it and never backing down. The show must go on and I
am just getting started.!
