Chucks Ejiofor is one of the most extremely likable film makers I've had the immense pleasure to meet. Chucks tells Vanuzonaija Exclusively about himself/how long he's been a film maker/the most difficult thing about film making and more...Q: Tell us a bit about yourself?
ANS: Well, my name is Chucks John Ejiofor, from Anambra state, Awka south, a graduate of Nnamdi Azikwe University. Eeem, Am a Nollywood film maker, I'm not single...that's all.
Q: How long have you been directing?
ANS: I have been directing since 2007, that's about seven years now...but I've done several assistant directing before then, I got into it through training and on the field too.
Q: What's the most difficult thing about directing?
ANS: The most difficult aspect of directing is when the director wants the actors to give what he wants and not what they want, especially managing artist with pride and ego.
Q:What can you tell us about your directing style?
ANS: My directing style is just cool, calm and collected like myself, though pacing. I'm a good listener, and my style is unique.
Q: When do story ideas usually hit you?
ANS: Eeem, I get hit by a story mostly in the midnight, then I will be in trouble cause my mind will be on it for as long as I get the story ready.
Q: What is the favorite part of directing?
ANS: It's when as a director--you're working with fantastic actors that delivers their roles perfectly...it gives the director joy...yes, another favorite part is when I'm having an audition where the wannabes will want to impress, discovering new talents gives me joy. I think it's my favorite.
Q: Do you think Nollywood still lacks good directing?
ANS: Not really, we have quality directors that are still very relevant, but because of their purse, some producers can't afford them, they go for the new vibrant once like myself. So, I wouldn't say Nollywood lack good directors. Some are still seeking for the opportunities
Q: How would you define the actual role a director is suppose to fill?
ANS: The direction is to suggest to the investor/producer which artist suit a particular character or fills it in for presentation on the table of the investor/producer for discussion and agreement...though open for changes.
Q: If you were a car what would you be?
ANS: (Laughs) I would still want to be human, but if a car, I would be "SUV jeep" or G WAG.
Q: What's the best advice you could give to someone new to film making?
ANS: My advice to an intending film maker is to have the ability to identify to good writers, good actors and also to be ready to make all work together by putting in their diverse acts for an objective, no sentiment must be attached.
Chucks is currently working on a TV programme that is new on air, and some other big stuffs. Watch out for him!
